Gigantic rats roam free on fish display at Bangkok market (VIDEO)

A video of at least three huge rats hanging out on a fish display at Huai Kwang Market shocked and disgusted those who fancied fried gourami.

The video, which was passed around on the LINE application, has raised discussions on the standard of hygiene at fresh markets.

It was shared with the description: “Rats on a fish stall! I don’t know which organization is responsible for this. There should be some measures to deal with this because vendors cannot possibly throw away all the fish from their stall. He probably threw away only the ones that the rats had gnawed. Still, the rats must have brought germs, filth, and hygiene concern.”

Bangkok’s Food Sanitation officers said today they are investigating the incident, and the vendor may face legal charges. People are encouraged to report similar incidents to the office, according to Daily News.

Vicharn Pawan, director of the Bureau of Risk Communication and Health Behavior Development, warned that rats could be carriers of germs and could cause food poisoning. To prevent such illness, always purchase food from hygienic shops, only eat cooked food, and wash your hands before meals.
