Hotel pool built in Pattaya sea to be demolished

Pattaya authorities yesterday ordered Golden Cliff House, a popular three-star hotel, to remove its sea-view pool after aerial photos show it has invaded the sea for over a decade.

The hotel is required to remove their pool from the public space within 45 days as it violates  the Act on Navigation in Thai Waters.

The hotel itself has also been closed after the authority found that it was licensed as residential building and breached the Building Control Act. The hotel will remain closed until the owner obtains the correct hotel license.

PPTV reported that Google Earth’s satellite view taken in 2005 shows the pool in question, meaning that the hotel has invaded the public beach and sea for over a decade.

The owner of the hotel, whose name was not mentioned, has been charged and released on THB40,000 bail.

BIG Trees environmental group shared PPTV’s aerial photos of the pool. The post sparked a heavy discussion from locals, who comment that government officers should also be charged for their negligence and possible corruption.
