ATM armed robber turns out to be award-winning police investigator (VIDEO)

An award-winning police investigator was arrested for the recent one-man armed robbery where he got away with over THB5 million in under a minute.

Pol. Lt. Col. Withoon Petpankan, of Ban Bueng police station, in Chonburi, was suspected of robbing a cash delivery van at gunpoint. He was arrested and will be interrogated.

Video of the incident on Nov. 21 shows three Krung Thai staff members with money bags at an ATM inside a PTT gas station in Suphanburi province. In the footage, a man wearing a helmet walks toward them with a gun. He grabs the money bag and leaves on a motorcycle.

The attacker shot both before and after the theft but no one was hurt.

Daily News reported that Pol. Lt. Col. Withoon, was given an award just a month ago, on Oct. 13, for being an outstanding investigator of the year.

Apart from Pol. Lt. Col. Withoon, police accused two men of helping the thief: a popcorn vendor at the gas station of informing Withoon when the van carrying the cash arrived and Withoon’s older brother, Chaiyadet Phetpankan, for helping him escape.

These two suspects are still on the run.
