Campers crammed onto Phu Thap Boek Mountain over long weekend

Looking for a chilly, peaceful vacation? You may need to find a spot other than Phu Thap Boek, Phetchabun, as it doesn’t seem like it can hold any more visitors.

Facebook user Thanakit Sasonsuk posted an aerial photo of the mountain that he took over the long weekend, showing colorful tents lined up and a full parking lot.

Some Facebook users joked about whether it was a tourist destination or a refugee camp. Other showed disdain that the once calm and peaceful Phu Thap Boek is gone thanks to loud tourists and the garbage they left.

Khaosod reported that, on the same weekend, a group of tourists ruined everyone’s getaway with their loud truck stereo. A visitor recorded a video showing the problematic group playing loud music in the early morning. Kraisorn Kongsalak, vice governor of Phetchabun province, expressed his anger about the ill-mannered tourists on his Facebook account.

“I’ve ordered the Lom Kao district to prosecute them however possible. Don’t let this happen again. Keep it in mind that Phetchabun people don’t care if tourists like you stop coming here,” he proclaimed.

The mountain is one of the popular destinations during winter for its cool weather and stunning landscape. On a good day, visitors can observe the sea of fog from the top of the mountain. That is, if they can find a spot among the crowds and tents.

We can expect the same scenario over the new year’s holiday. So, if overpopulated tents are not your thing, better plan ahead and find other mountains.
