Following several reports of women getting mugged on the outskirts of Bangkok, one dedicated officer decided to put a stop to it by setting a trap for the serial muggers by disguising himself as a pretty, long-haired lady with a snatchable purse.
The decoy plan was conducted yesterday following several reports of teens who were targeting women commuting alone in the early mornings of December 7 and 8.
Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj. Vivek Kamolvibul was chosen as the pretty decoy. He disguised himself as a lady by wearing a raven-tressed wig with bangs and a pretty blouse. He waited at the bus stop on Rattanathibet Road between 4 and 5am.
The plan succeeded when he saw two men on a motorcycle circle the area, but they seemed to realize something wasn’t right and escaped. However, their license plate matched the letters and numbers that victims have partially remembered. Police then followed the men to their house and captured them.
Thanawat Krutsorn, 18, and his accomplice, aged 17, confessed to the crime. Thairath reported that they would drink “4×100 drugs,” aka the Thai version of Purple Drank, to get high and wild before going out to find a victim. They targeted women who commuted alone in the early morning, and then used a knife to threaten the women to hand over their purses.
They spent the stolen money on more drugs, so that they could commit more muggings.
One victim has identified the teens as the muggers who took her mobile phone and necklace.
