Like most Bangkokians (and everyone, actually), we dread the process of booking long haul flights. It starts with sifting through a thousand discount booking portals only to save a few Baht by booking a flight with seven different layovers in cities we’ve only heard of in geography class.
And let’s not forget to mention how time consuming it all is, hours and days of sleeping at random terminals, mind you! Been there, done that.
So we beg your pardon if we get a little overexcited when we hear about direct flights connecting major cities in Asia to North America.
Now, just in time for the holidays and last minute vacay decisions, (or for that 2017 trip you’ve been thinking about) ANA has introduced new routes direct from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to JFK in New York City and O’Hare in Chicago. And, if the trip involves a little shopping excursion in Tokyo, even better!
The flights are conveniently timed during the day; all the better for catching up on movies while you stretch your legs. Haneda Airport, located just 30 minutes south of central Tokyo, is also a very convenient place to stop. It’s much closer to the city than Narita, Tokyo’s other international airport.
ANA already operates direct flights from Haneda to Los Angeles, Honolulu and Vancouver, taking the total number of ANA flights from Japan to North American cities to five. So no big shocker us Bangkok travellers will be stopping at Haneda Airport more and more on our way to North America! Hey, we don’t usually get this lucky with stopovers, you know.
ANA also announced that they will begin direct flights from Tokyo to Mexico City in Feb. 2017. With the addition of this new route (ANA’s 42nd direct international destination), ANA will be the only airline with daily direct flights between Mexico and Japan. Congrats, guys, traveling just became easier and better.
Not that ANA would brag about it or anything, but they were voted Airline of the Year for 2013 by Air Transport World Magazine, and in 2016 they were awarded five stars for the fourth consecutive year by the world’s leading Airline and Airport review site, SKYTRAX.
ANA, founded in 1952, is the largest airline in Japan with 83 international routes and 116 domestic routes. (Phew! That’s a lot of little bags of peanuts.) In 2015, 50.8 million passengers travelled on ANA’s fleet of 250 aircraft.
Looks like that number will increase as Mexico-bound passengers will start shaking their maracas on Boeing 787-8s as they will be flying from Narita International Airport to Mexico City International Airport starting this Feb.
That means it will be even easier for us here in Bangkok to fly to Mexico, with a little sushi and shopping stopover in Tokyo, of course.
