Three Thai airports may lose international flight privileges

Three Thai airports might not meet certain international criteria for security and if they don’t pass an inspection in six months, they could be closed to international flights.

This could be pretty devastating considering that two of the three are big tourists destination airports: Krabi and Surat Thani. The third affected airport is Udon Thani.

The Universal Security Audit Program will make a visit to 11 Thai airports this summer and determine if those airports are secure enough to handle international flights, reported ThaiVisa.

To get up to international standards, the three airports in question need to install new X-ray machines to detect weapons. The machines have been ordered but there are concerns that they won’t be in place in time for the inspection.
