Thai police hunt for Czech man wanted for intentionally spreading HIV

Thai police are hunting for a Czech man who is wanted in the Czech Republic for knowingly infecting 17 people with HIV. Now, he’s in Thailand and believed to be spreading the disease to Thai people.

Interpol has requested that Thai police arrest Zdenek Pfeifer, 49, the Czech national in question. The man reportedly has a habit of having unprotected sex and knowingly spreading the virus since he became HIV-positive.

After fleeing the Czech Republic, Pfeifer entered Thailand in 2014 and has flown to several tourist destinations around the country. Since there is no record of him leaving Thailand, police believe he is still in the country, likely in a tourist destination, Daily News reported.

A memo signed by Pol. Maj. Gen. Pongdet Prommichit, deputy chief of Provincial Police Region 5, said that Pfeifer “has a habit of spreading HIV to Thai women.” Thai media reported that the police in eight northern provinces have been instructed to track him down.

Prague Daily Monitor reported last year that Pfeifer started spreading HIV in 2013 and has infected 17 people in the Czech Republic, including one underage boy whose family found out he had repeated sexual intercourse with the fugitive.
