Suspect in iPhone robbery-murder pleads guilty

One of the two suspects in the gruesome iPhone murder-robbery in Lat Phrao a few weeks ago pleaded guilty in court yesterday for fatally stabbing the victim.

Kittikorn Wigaha, 26, pleaded guilty at Ratchada Criminal Court for the Jan. 4 murder and robbery of Wasin Leungjam.

However, his accomplice, Supatchai Chansri, 25, only confessed to driving the getaway motorcycle. He denied the murder charge and said he attempted to stop Kittikorn from stabbing the victim, Now26 reported.

They were both charged with theft for the stolen iPhone subsequently causing death, carrying a weapon in a public place, and murder to conceal a crime, according to Bangkok Post.

In the early morning of Jan. 4, Wasin Leungjam, 26, was found dead on Soi Sukhonthasawat 27. CCTV footage showed that he was attacked by two men who approached him on a motorcycle. Wasin fought back, leading one of the men, later identified as Kittikorn, to stab him in the neck.

It was reported that only his iPhone was stolen while his wallet was intact.

After allegedly murdering Wasin, the pair were also accused of robbing another woman and making off with her mobile phone and THB5,000 cash.

The next trial is scheduled for Feb. 27.
