Finally! Buy train tickets online starting tomorrow

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has finally decided to allow people to buy train tickets online, easing countless headaches for Thais, expats and international travelers trying to plan trip logistics in advance.

As of tomorrow, you’ll no longer have to actually go to Hua Lamphong station and stand in line to buy or pick up tickets.

The new ticketing service, called e-TSRT, can be used to buy tickets for adults and children in first, second and third class carriages, but users won’t be able to book special trains or free trains on the site.

Tickets can be purchased between two hours and 60 days before the train departs and each order can be for up to  four seats. Credit card payment will mean a charge of an additional THB20-40 baht per chair, reported Bangkok Post.

The SRT expects that up to half of their customers will end up using the new service. The train system currently accommodates 80,000 riders on weekdays and 90,000 on weekends.

You can start buying tickets online tomorrow at www.railway.co.th and www.thairailwayticket.com.
