The longest running Japanese Film Festival in the world continues its annual screenings of well-curated Japanese movies.
Presented and run by the Japanese Foundation in Bangkok, JFF2017 will be held from Feb. 4-12 at SF World Cinema. Fourteen Japanese films will be screened in genres including comedy, drama, action and award-winning anime.
Not only will the festival celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, it is also the kick-off to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Thailand-Japan diplomatic relations.
The opening event on Feb. 4 will feature “In this Corner of the World,” the animated historical drama about a young girl who gathers her strength to live her life to the fullest during 1940s war time in Hiroshima. The night concludes with the screening of “Sanada Ten Braves,” a comedy-action based on an Edo-period novel about a group of ninjas.
The evening will also feature a talk from Thai actors Chantavit “Ter” Dhanasevi, Jarinporn “Toey” Joonkiat, and Banjong “Tong” Pisanthanakun. Moreover, Masaya Kato, the Japanese actor who starred in the historical action movie Sanada Ten Braves, will also attend the opening.
