Gold snatching in Pattaya continues as Finnish couple robbed on first day of vacation

A Finnish couple arrived in Pattaya for vacation yesterday and were immediately robbed by gold snatchers who grabbed two necklaces worth about THB50,000 from the wife’s neck in the afternoon.

The incident happened on Soi Wat Bunkanchanaram, in Bang Lamung.

The couple, Raimo Kalevi, 53, and husband Eilo Mario, 51, called the police and still appeared very surprised and upset when officers arrived on the scene.

The wife had bruises on her neck from where the thief, who was on a motorcycle, ripped her jewelry off while driving by, reported Bangkok Post.

The had only gotten to Pattaya that day and had dropped their luggage at their hotel before going  shopping. The robbery happened as they were crossing the street.

Hotel owner Natpairat Pengpinit saw the crime occur and it was also caught on CCTV. He noted that the thefts were common.

As gold snatching has become more and more common over the last few weeks, Pattaya Police are trying to arrest more snatch thieves.

In the meantime, it’s best to leave your bling at home if you’re heading to Pattaya.
