Since its Dec. 12 opening, the Chinese film Lost in Thailand has broken a slew of box office records in its home country, securing the reputation of star Xu Zheng and adding credence to the assertion that Thailand is definitely on the radar for Chinese tourists.
According to Twitch Film, Lost in Thailand boasts both the highest-grossing December opening and the highest single day take ever for a domestically produced Chinese movie, in addition to several other financial distinctions.
According to Twitch Film’s questionably translated synopsis, the movie involves two rival businessmen who run to Thailand in an effort to secure a career-defining coup. (Actually, you know what, just check out the trailer below.)
In an interesting addendum, the Bangkok Post pointed out in its writeup that visits from Chinese tourists to Thailand have increased 28.9% between January and June of this year.
