COCONUTS HOT SPOT – With “American food” in Thailand often conjuring up images of McDonalds, KFC, and now Carl’s Jr., the cuisine has gotten an undeserved bad rap here in the Kingdom. So when we heard about Kingpin’s American breakfast we had to give it a try simply because there are very few good American restaurants in Bangkok, let alone restaurants focusing on breakfast. And this one does it right.
The whole concept of breakfast being different than any other meal is generally foreign to Bangkok. The only thing differentiating Thai breakfast from lunch or dinner is simply the time of day that you eat, the food doesn’t change much. Across the world, in America, it does…and Kingpin totally gets that.
Their skillets are what you’re going to keep coming back for on those slow-moving Sunday mornings. The combination of eggs, ham, cheese and potatoes the morning after a long night out is magical. The skillets come served right off the stove, cast iron skillet included. The key to making an awesome skillet is timing, and Kingpin’s skillet comes with the cheese still melting as it gets to the table. If the skillet doesn’t sound awesome enough, go for the eggs benedict, as it’s equally as good.
They offer a lunch and dinner menu as well, but if you’re going to make the trek out to The Nine, it’s wise to come for your first and most important meal of the day.
The décor is masculine, using dark colors with a touch of industrial flair. This is a great place to meet up with your buds on Sunday morning, order a Triple Karmeliet, leaf through the selection car magazines, eat a hearty breakfast and go over the weekend’s happenings.
