BMA in hot water over giant tunnel

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is in hot water over alleged graft and ineffectiveness of the multi-billion-baht giant tunnel project and six other water drainage facilities.

Department of Special Investigation Chief Tharit Pengdit announced yesterday that their department will be investigating the BMA over the Rama IX-Ramkhamhaeng giant tunnel and six other water drainage projects based on the request of Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit.

According to the Nation, the Pheu Thai Party accused the BMA of being corrupt and rigging bids when they built the giant tunnel and as well as the drainage tunnels at Sukhumvit Soi 26, Khlong Prem Prachakorn, Phaya Thai, Sukhumvit Soi 36, Sukhumvit Soi 42 and Bung Makkasan.

Tharit noted that his department’s corruption prevention and suppression centre will be handling the investigations and Prompong will be invited as a witness.

In related news, the DSI Special Case Committee has yet to confirm if it will conduct an investigation on Skytrain contract extension by the BMA.
