Doctor faces murder charges in death of Burmese worker

The Bangkok Post is reporting that Doctor Supat Laohawattana, formerly a physician at Police General Hospital, is facing charges of murder in connection with the death of a Burmese migrant worker.

Police originally found the remains of the worker, named Ita, in Supat’s orchard, while they were searching for a married couple that had been missing since 2009.

Though the precise connection between Supat and Ita remains unclear, police have also charged the doctor with human trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms.

Supat’s two sons, Ake and Akara, are being implicated in the murder as well.
