‘Dr. Pop’ surrenders over coma-inducing beauty injections

It was a routine procedure gone seriously bad.

This was the explanation Thanat Natchaweerakul, more popularly known as “Dr Pop” to starlets and aspiring celebrities, gave to the parents of Arthittaya Iamyai, the ‘pretty’ who slipped into a coma after receiving glutathione injections.

Mr Thanat had earlier surrendered to authorities and apologized to the girl’s parents at a news conference on Monday. He said that he had given glutathione shots to about 20 other girls for THB40,000 each. It was only Arthittaya who exhibited adverse reactions to the chemicals.

The former beauty clinic assistant recounted that following the injection, the girl stopped breathing and lost consciousness. He then took her to the hospital but went into hiding and surrendered only once the case became public.

Thanat is facing multiple charges. He is neither a licensed medical practitioner nor does he have permits to run a beauty clinic that does this kind of procedures. He is also charged with causing serious injury through carelessness.

Investigators on the other hand are hot on the trail of a woman called “Bogie.” She is rumored to be Thanat’s business partner and may have been supplying the chemicals and other substances they use in the clinic.

The Nation reported that Arthittaya has yet to wake up from the coma.
