Low-cost carriers operating out of Don Mueang from today

Low-cost carriers began full operations out of Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport today as part of a plan to ease congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Thai AirAsia – the largest of the carriers – completed its move overnight Sunday after a final flight from Suvarnabhumi with its first flight, to Bali, taking off from Don Mueang at 6:15am, The Nation reported.

The number of commercial flights at Don Mueang is set to increase from 250 per day to as many as 400. Airports of Thailand president Anirut Thanomkulabutra said that duty free shops, restaurants and other facilities would be fully operational from today.
