‘Penis’ mango tree worshiped by Ayutthaya residents

Ayutthaya residents are making offerings to two mango trees, one of which appears to have a penis, the other of which appears to have a vagina, under the belief that these offerings will bring them good luck.

The two trees – nicknamed Grandpa Sanggasa and Grandma Sanggasee – are spaced five meters apart in a garden next to a meditation center in the Maharat District.

Prathuang Somprasong, the caretaker of the meditation center, said that originally, the piece of land where Grandpa and Grandma reside had belonged to a Pathum Thani man. But the man was paralyzed and thereafter sold the property to a woman. Then the woman’s husband died. Finally, a Bangkok local bought it and donated it to the center.

Prathuang stated that the first landowner planted several mango trees more than 10 years ago but after flooding, only Grandpa and Grandma survived. Since then, local people have come to worship them and ask them for luck.

According to Dailynews, Grandpa Sanggasa’s penis-like protuberance measures nine inches.
