Petchaburi monks beat monkey into oblivion

A pigtail macaque monkey that had been allegedly tied to a tree and beaten by monks at a temple in Petchaburi province has been nursed back to health by Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand.

The monkey’s hip was broken when it was found, but a plaster cast has been applied and the primate is feeling better.

The macaque, named Bo, was believed to have been beaten with a stick while chained to the tree, according to WFFT. The metal chain had to be cut from Bo’s leg and WFFT staff found that the monkey’s teeth were damaged from trying to gnaw through the chain.

WFFT said on its Facebook page that the monkey had bitten a monk and was beaten as punishment.
