Red Bull heir’s Ferrari was speeding at 200 kph, hit policeman from behind

Police forensic investigators have concluded that the Thonglor motorcycle policeman hit and killed by a Ferrari driven by Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya did not cut in front of the car, as Vorayuth has claimed.

Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy commissioner Jarumporn Suramanee said the investigation showed that the Ferrari hit the motorcycle from behind, breaking officer Pol Snr Sgt Maj Wichian Klanprasert’s neck and killing him instantly, according to the Bangkok Post.

The Nation reported that tests showed the Ferrari was traveling at around 200 kph when it struck the motorcycle.

Wichian’s body was not dragged by the car on the road, Pol Maj Gen Jarumporn said, but the car dragged the motorcycle for about 100 meters.

Vorayuth, 27, the grandson of Red Bull founder and billionaire Chaleo Yoovidhya, paid his respects at the funeral of the dead officer yesterday at Wat That Thong.

Police are still awaiting blood alcohol tests on the young man.

His lawyer, Senator Samak Chaowapanant, said that Vorayuth was totally sober when the crash occurred but that he drank alcohol upon his return home because he was so shaken up by the accident.

“Boss was very sad,” the senator said, using Vorayuth’s nickname. “I understand that after the crash and his surrender, Boss drank that night to relieve his tenseness … but he did not drink before the incident happened.”

Samak said he fled the scene of the accident without checking for the body because he was “shocked and afraid,” the Bangkok Post reported.

The crash is the latest in a series of traffic accidents involving powerful people that have provoked the ire of Thai citizens online.
