Thai automobile sales hit record high

Thanks in no small part to the “first-car” tax rebate, 2012 car sales in Thailand grew a whopping 81% year-on-year.

In total, Thais bought 1,436,335 news cars in 2012, spurred along by the “first-car” tax rebate and by a backlog of orders that had piled up during the 2011 floods.

The Nation reports that those floods knocked out several car factories for a large part of 2011 and that only in 2012 did they return to full production capacity.
