Thailand makes a decent showing on the Forbes’ 2013 billionaires list

Forbes has released its annual compendium of the richest people on the planet and Thai citizens occupy 10 of the lists’ 1,342 spots.

Leading the charge is Dhanin Chearavanont and his family, whose fortune stems from the Charoen Pokphand Group, a massive agricultural business responsible for producing much of the food consumed in Thailand. Dhanin’s net worth is estimated at USD14.3 billion.

Coming in second and third were beverage magnate Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, with USD11.7 billion, and real estate mogul Thongma Vijitpongpun, with USD2 billion.

It turns out that Thaksin Shinawatra is the sixth richest man in Thailand (or, the sixth richest Thai national, rather) with USD1.7 billion.
