Members of the Democrat Party are calling on the government to come up with an energy plan for this April, when maintenance on a gas platform in Myanmar will create a chronic shortage of natural gas in Thailand.
The platform, which supplies 25% of the Kingdom’s natural gas, will be undergoing maintenance between April 4 and 12.
According to Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal, this maintenance, in combination with damages already sustained by the Thai-Malaysian gas pipeline, will result in a nationwide energy shortage.
The Bangkok Post reports that the Energy Ministry has announced plans to release a contingency plan aimed at addressing the gas shortage by March 13.
