Tollway Accident: Two men killed in crash found to be drunk

Two well-known and successful men who died last month in a Bangkok tollway accident involving a speeding Porsche were found to have high alcohol content in their blood.

Mr. Chaifa Chayawaraprapa, managing director of Buddy Group Hotels & Resorts and the owner of Buddy Lodge Hotel, and Pol. Lt. Col. Sakdipat Patummarak, son of a former director of the Thai Rak Thai party and a former deputy minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, died in the crash on April 14.

The crash happened when Chaifa, who was driving a Porsche, crashed into the back of Sakdipat’s Toyota Fortuner at high speed on the tollway in front of the Daily News office in Bang Khen district, Matichon reported. He was found to be traveling 260-280kmh in 6th gear at 6,000 RPMs by police investigators who examined 16 CCTV cameras. Chaifa died instantly in the crash while Sakdipat, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was also killed. Sakdipat was traveling at 40kmh in his Fortuner.

Police announced on May 14 that the crash was probably caused in part by high alcohol levels in both men’s blood.

A man in a Mazda that crashed into the Fortuner was also severely injured in the crash.
