Vorayuth to face drunk driving charges over fatal Ferrari crash

Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya will be charged with drunk driving over the hit-and-run accident he caused that left a Thonglor policeman dead, the Nation has reported.

Vorayuth had over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood when he hit Pol Snr Sgt Maj Wichian Klanprasert with his Ferrari on Sukhumvit Road earlier this week, Thonglor police chief Pol Colonel Chumphol Phumphuang said.

The drunk driving charge increases the potential penalties the 27-year-old could face.

He’s already been charged with causing death through carelessness – which can result in a maximum sentence of a 10-year prison sentence and THB20,000 fine. He now faces a “minimum jail term of three years to 10 years and/or a maximum fine of Bt200,000, along with suspension of his driver’s license for a lengthy period,” according to the Nation. If that all sounds a bit confusing to you, you’re not alone.

Police are still trying to figure out how fast his Ferrari was traveling, Chumpol said.

Earlier the Nation reported that it was traveling around 200kph, while a recent report from the Bangkok Post says it was going “over 100kph.”
