Mainland follies: China sees second circus tiger attack in less than a week (Video)

We didn’t think we’d be saying this so soon, but there’s been another circus tiger gone wrong moment over on the mainland, this time with two children injured after one escaped the ring during a performance in the northern province of Shanxi.

According to Chinese media reports, the incident took place on Saturday during a performance by a travelling circus at a local fair in Hongtong county’s Shengwang village.

Grainy video uploaded to YouTube shows the tiger slipping from the cage and sending the crowd scattering. It appears some people were knocked down in the confusion and, according to reports, two children were scratched by the animal.

China.hket.com however reported the youngsters’  injuries were not serious and they were released from hospital.

Media reports quoted officials saying the tiger’s cage was unlocked but did not go into specifics as to how or why.

The incident on Saturday came only days after a 65-year-old man was mauled by a tiger from a travelling circus in Henan province.

To be fair, the victims in this case were more markedly more unlucky than an elderly gentleman who had two fingers bitten off after he tried to feed cash to the caged tiger and another lion nearby.
