Thailand’s trains may run dry

There’s nothing like a lukewarm can of Chang to take the edge off those long, slow misadventures on Thailand’s railways. But it may become a thing of the past.

Anti-alcohol crusaders, who have also recently targeted beer-flavored ice cream, have petitioned the Public Health Ministry to ban booze in the bogeys.

Songkran Pakchokdee, who heads the Anti-Alcohol Organisations Network, filed the petition yesterday asking the ministry to ban the sale of alcohol on trains and at train stations.

Doing so would reduce incidents of violence and sexual harassment, it said.

Permanent Secretary Somchai Siriwatanachok said the Transport Ministry will wait for a decision by Health, The Nation reported.
