Forbes: Thailand’s billionaire magnates relatively less wealthy than others

Chances are you’ve done something recently to help make the Thai patriarch of one of Asia’s biggest conglomerates the 97th richest person in the world, according to Forbes Magazine’s updated list of billionaires

After all, Dhanin Chearavanont and his family own Chaoren Pokphand, which had reported revenues of USD46.5 billion last year. Heard of 7-Eleven, True Corp., Makro or CP All? Those are just a few of the operations CP owns outright or holds a majority stake in. According to the list, 76-year-old Dhanin and his family are worth USD11.4 billion.

That’s actually quite a fall for Dhanin, who just last year Forbes listed as No. 58.

Although the list seems to have some notable exceptions, it also counts ThaiBev’s Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi as No. 141 with USD9 billion, who fell from 82nd place in last year’s list.

A third Thai national listed is Thai Life’s Vanich Chaiyawan (No. 429, USD3.65 billion), media magnate Krit Ratanarak (No. 609, USD2.8 billion), Dusit Medical Services’ Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth (No. 1038, USD1.75 billion.)

Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is listed as the sixth wealthiest Thai with USD1.6 billion, but fell to No. 1092 this year from No. 882 in 2013.
