A fould smell led police yesterday to about 1,000 dead dogs missing their skin and flesh in a secluded part of Sakhon Nakhon province not far from the border with Laos.

Locals had been complaining that folks had been dumping dead dogs among the trees near Pa Kho village, so when police went to check it out, they saw four men on two motorcycles dump four large bags in the woods.

Police found hundreds of dead dogs with their skin and most of their flesh removed, likely the work of dog-meat smugglers. Police suspect they were trying to hide evidence after recent raids of dog meat facilities, The Nation reported.
