THB10 million watch thieves may or may not be Chinese

The Immigration Bureau believes it has identified the three men who stole a rare, THB10 million-baht Montblanc wristwatch from Gaysorn Plaza on Tuesday.

Three Chinese nationals, Fa Jun He, Shao Hua Ye and Zhen Zu Wu, flew out of Thailand to Shenzhen on the same night and are now primary suspects in the high-end heist, according to Immigration Bureau Chief Pharnu Kerdlarpphon.

However that may just be circumstantial, and Metropolitan Police Bureau investigators suspect an even craftier ruse by the thieves: They may not have been Chinese but only spoke the language to fool witnesses and throw police off their scent.

One of the men snatched the the Villeret 1858 Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique from the Montblanc shop at Gaysorn Plaza on Tuesday afternoon while the other two distracted its staff.

According to investigators, one of them was dropped off in front of the Thai Red Cross Society on Henry Dunant Road before joining the other two at the airport.

Before police could consider an extradition request for the Chinese nationals, they said they’ll need much more evidence, Bangkok Post reported.

Only eight Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique watches were made, and only one was available in Thailand.
