A sample of the Ebola antibody treatment Siriraj Hospital announced Thursday it had developed has been requested by The World Health Organization.
Instead of going through a lengthy series of tests on animal and eventually human subjects, the WHO would like to examine the antibody, which was not developed using live a Ebola virus, in a secure biolab in the United States, according to Udom Kachintorn of the hospital’s Faculty of Medicine.
If the treatment is found effective, Udom said the WHO might be able to fast-track the process for its use in treating victims of the virus currently ravaging Western Africa, The Nation reported.
