Despite DNA matches, police unsure serial rape suspect is their man

Tests of DNA has linked a man to seven alleged victims of sexual assault, but police have yet to confirm whether he’s the serial rapist and murderer they’ve been hunting.

DNA taken from the 10th victim of someone police say has been preying on mostly elderly women for the past four years matched a man arrested Monday not far from where the attack occurred.

“DNA found on the six victims is the same as that collected in the latest case which occurred on Sunday police Maj. Gen. Manu Mekmok of the Office of Police Forensic Science told Bangkok Post.

However, investigators have been unable to make a fingerprint match, he added.

Uncertain they’ve apprehended the right man, the Royal Thai Police today announced a THB100,000 reward for information leading to his apprehension, according to Manager.

Information and tips can be shared with the police via hotline at 191 or 1599.

Police launched a manhunt this past weekend, as they concluded the latest attack was connected to a series of sexual assaults, including two murders, since 2011.

Most of the victims were over 70 and were alone at the time. On Sunday, someone poisoned a 73-year-old woman’s dog before entering her home in Nakhom Pathom, threatening her and raping her.
