Stickers for “friendly” taxis: Bangkok launches campaign to impress tourists

It may sound like an oxymoron, but Bangkok’s “Friendly Taxi” campaign aims to show tourists coming out of Suvarnabhumi airport that Thai taxis offer a good service.

Okay, then.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched the scheme with the police and other government departments after ongoing complaints about taxis, from rip-off drivers running scam meters, passengers being rejected, badly-behaved drivers, and even law-breaking drivers turning to theft and assault.

Taxi drivers operating at Suvarnabhumi airport will undergo training sessions where they will learn about legal taxi practices and punishments for breaking the law, Thai PBS reported.

If they pass the course, they’ll get a “Friendly Taxi” sticker to put on their car.

Sadly the scheme only applies to the airport, and not the rest of Bangkok, Khaosod English reported.
