Lod Chong vendor disciplined gently, blames factory for filthy buckets

Songkhla officials have located the fresh market where the viral photos of cendol, or lod chong, dessert were being sold from shockingly unhygienic buckets.

According to Prai Pattano, Mayor of Hat Yai municipality, the dessert photos were taken at Fresh Market Plaza 3, and the vendor was identified as Somsak Remsri-ngam, 50.

Prai has instructed Somsak to obtain clean, proper containers with lids to store the sweet treat and the vendor was not given a punishment.

Somsak said that the old color buckets used to store the cendol came from the factory that sold him the dessert. He suspected that the photo was taken on the day when the factory sent a different delivery guy than usual. This one didn’t know he was supposed to put the cendol buckets on the table, not the dirty, wet floor.

But that’s not an excuse for why the containers themselves look so dirty.

Somsak said that, because the cendol is  made of flour, sometimes the flour leaves traces on the bucket during the production process. He agreed to comply with the health officials and find new containers for his lod chong.

The mayor said that he will also inspect the factory that supplied the dessert to Somsak’s shop, Thairath TV reported.
