Satisfy your inner cinephile with reenactments of historic moments in motion pictures at Thai Film Archive’s event “Night At Maya City.”
Maya City is an open-air museum that duplicates iconic locations in global and Thai cinema history. Maya means illusion, which the art and industry of motion pictures are built on.
The main attraction of the night is the replica of Salon Indien at Hotel Scribe in Paris, where on December 28, 1895, the Lumiere brothers held the world’s first ever commercial screening of a motion picture. Here, visitors will get to see how an old cinematograph works, just like the first 33 audience members who experienced it on that night.
Other attractions included Kinetoscope, Thomas Edison’s device that displays motion pictures for one person at a time when they press their eyes against its peephole widow, and Mongkol Company Theater, where the first cinematograph was introduced to Thailand on June 10, 1897.
Visitors can also enjoy street food and other activities like starring their own movie or taking photos with vintage building replicas as backgrounds.
Located in Salaya, Nakhon Pathom, Maya City is usually open on weekends and public holidays from 10am – 5pm, but to commemorate World Cinema Day on Dec. 28, the special event will be held on Dec. 28 – 30, at Maya City from 5pm – 9pm.
