Honduras loses King’s Cup match after forced to sing Uzbek anthem (VIDEO)

It wasn’t the hotness that is Charyl Chappuis or Mika Chunuonsee grabbing attention in the first match of the King’s Cup football league last night.

What everyone was talking about was the sight of Honduran football players looking amused, annoyed or confused as the stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima played the Uzbek national anthem for them to sing along to.

“It was a good opening ceremony, but I’m disappointed we did not get to sing to our anthem,” Honduras’ coach Jorge Jimenez said in a translation by Manager. “It definitely affected our athletes’ spirit.”

And the Hondurans were obviously discouraged as Thailand won 3-1.

It still wasn’t as bad as the 2012 incident when a gold-medalist from Kazakhstan stood smiling through the fake national anthem from the movie “Borat” which praised her country’s “clean prostitutes” at a shooting event in Kuwait.

Honduras will face South Korea in their next match on Wednesday at the 43rd King’s Cup.
