Police repeal ’24-hour’ rule which slowed searches for missing children

When a child goes missing, every second counts. Until now, distraught parents concerned about the wherabouts of their children had to wait 24 hours before seeking help from authorities.

After it reportedly delayed the search for Cartoon, the 6-year-old girl whose remains were found Sunday, the Royal Thai Police ordered police throughout the nation now to disregard the rule.

Although Cartoon was killed soon after her Dec. 6 disappearance by a drifter named Nui, who has since been arrested, the rule’s repeal could help expedite future cases.

Police also reminded the public to report missing children via hotline at 1599, Khaosod reported.
