‘Useful Tips for Happy Holiday’ tell tourists what not to do (PHOTOS)

Did you know that in Thailand, no one litters, not even a “small cigarette butt or toothpick?”

Following a storm of rants about Chinese tourists behavin’ badly, tourism officials said they will redistribute the glorious “Useful Tips for Happy Holiday in Thailand,” a 2013 booklet instructing tourists how to behave in Thailand.

The leaflet, which is in Chinese and English, has cartoon illustrations and aims to educate Chinese tourists in a friendly way rather than scolding them about how to behave, according to Warapa Angkarasirisap, director of the tourism authority’s East Asia Market Division.

Meanwhile an animated video telling tourists how to behave is also being created.

Warapa added that the authority has been aware of the inappropriate behavior of Chinese tourists for a long time and does not think Thais are biased against them. While tourists from other countries behave inappropriately at times, the amount of Chinese tourists make them stand out.

She said Thais should understand the fact that some Chinese tourists come from small provinces and may not know how to behave, BBC Thai reported.

The manual, which was first published in 2013, includes cultural facts from social graces, taboos, courtesy about queuing, and legal facts about driving and sexual offences.
