A Bangkok district court approved a warrant this afternoon for the suspect caught at the Thai-Cambodian border whom police deemed an “important person” in the group responsible for the Bangkok bombing.
The warrant issued by Min Buri district court identified him as a Chinese national named Yusufu Mieraili. He is charged with possessing explosives.
Mieraili’s fingerprints matched the bomb-making equipment discovered at the apartment in Nong Chok district, where the first suspect was arrested.
His name also matches the passport image from an unknown military source which circulated on social media Tuesday afternoon after the arrest, Khaosod English reported.
Mieraili was caught while he was suspiciously walking in the woods near the border in Sa Kaeo province, according to Spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri.
Over 100 officers raided Poon Anan apartment on Saturday and detained a man who used fake Turkish passports under the name Adem Karadag. Police found bomb-making equipment including ball bearings that could have been used in the attack at Erawan Shrine.
