The Appeal Court yesterday upheld a life imprisonment term for “Nui,” the serial child rapist and killer who confessed to sexually assaulting about 10 children and killing four of them.
The 35-year-old man, identified only as Nui, was given a life sentence for the rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl he had lured from her grandfather at a Red Cross Fair in Loei province on Feb. 5, 2013.
Nui told the victim he would buy her snacks before he sexually assaulted and strangled her in a roadside forest.
The Appeal Court’s decision yesterday was based on the original sentence given by the Criminal Court in July 2015. Nui was spared a death sentence in light of his confession, Bangkok Post reported.
Nui’s series of rapes and murders came to light after he was caught in December 2013 for raping and killing a 6-year-old girl “Cartoon.”
Her murder took place after her father left her napping inside a pick-up truck outside a country music show near BTS Bearing, leading police to connect Nui with other missing child cases.
As of today, Nui has been given three life sentences for sexually assaulting and killing three children, including a 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy in Leoi province, and 6-year-old Cartoon.
Nui, who doesn’t have proper identification, grew up in an orphanage and was adopted by a couple in Khon Kaen when he was seven years old. He was never educated and worked in construction sites in several provinces.
Nui said he only remembered attacking about 10 children and killing four of them, according to police. A psychologist who has interviewed Nui said the criminal was himself sexually abused as a child – he was repeatedly raped when he was about 6 years old.
Blaming his own bitter experiences, Nui said he started raping and trying to kill younger boys and girls when he was 15.
If the victims survived their ordeal, Nui would take them back to their home.
