A man who put a knife through a cat’s body as seen in a viral photo turned himself in to Tak police yesterday after an animal rights organization requested local police to prosecute him.
19-year-old Sitthichai (last name was withheld) paid THB1,000 fine at the police station in Tak province yesterday after the photo of his inhumane act upset the internet, including Watchdog Thailand, an animal rights organization.
On Wednesday Sitthichai posted a photo of a cat (warning: stabbed cat photo), with a knife pierced through its little body with a caption indicating he killed the cat.
The 19-year-old told police he was angry that the cat killed his chicken and bit his hand. He apologized to the public and vowed he would not be cruel to animals again. Besides the THB1,000 fine, Sitthichai would also be required to do community service, Sanook reported.
However under the new animal welfare bill, which will be effective in January,Sitthichai would face THB40,000 fine and two-year jail term maximum.
